An Eye for an Eye (Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you)

29 January – 9 February, 2025
Saint Cloche Gallery, Paddington

In an exhibition where sculpture and painting meet, the proverb “Eye for an Eye” evolves into a poetic exchange of perspectives. Here, sculptor Astrid Salomon and painter Skye Jamieson bring together their unique visions, embodying a shared consciousness that transcends medium. Their works, side by side, represent not an equal exchange of form, but a dialogue - a mutual awakening to the other’s world.

Together, they create a harmonious interplay: each piece an “eye” that reflects back to the other, deepening insight and cultivating an aura of benevolence and nurturance. Skye Jamieson, attuned to the subtleties of colour and light, captures fleeting moments that evoke a sense of presence and introspection. Astrid Salomon, through form and texture, invites the viewer to consider solidity and the tactile reality of existence.

This shared space becomes a sanctuary of lifegiving energy, where the viewer can feel the quiet resonance of two artists in communion, their visions layered to nurture a contemplative presence within the gallery.

This body of work marks a shift in my practice, bringing a newfound softness shaped by my materials and a recent move to a new studio. Rainwater connects these works to the environment, inviting questions about transformation and resonance. Materials like marble, lapis lazuli, and chalk have opened new spaces in my practice, encouraging movement across the canvas- like a prayer, a blessing, or a gift – embracing the work as it is.
